DIY Popcorn Costume

What you’ll need: a white tank top, popcorn pieces, hot glue gun, white pants, red acrylic paint, foam paint brush, 2-inch width duct tape, paper popcorn box, white construction paper, thin chain (approx. 18 inches long)

Instructions: Create your top by taking a white sleeveless tank and using hot glue to attach individual popcorn pieces all over the fabric. To make your pants, start by taping off 2-inch wide stripes with duct tape on your white trousers. Use a foam brush to paint stripes using red acrylic paint. Be sure to use a dabbing motion to prevent your paint from leaking under the tape!

To craft your popcorn purse, take a paper popcorn box and fill the inside with crumpled white construction paper to add structure. Hot glue pieces of popcorn to the paper that’s visible at the top of the box to create an overflowing effect.

Punch a hole toward the top on the left and right sides of the box, and thread your chain through the holes to create a handle for your purse. Use hot glue to firmly attach each end of the chain to the inside of the box. Of course, every box of popcorn needs butter so splash on a pair of Mustard Yellow Tieks to make your cute Halloween costume POP!

DIY Flower Bouquet Costume

What you’ll need: corset top, cage hoop skirt, 17.5 inch wide white kraft paper roll, scissors, clear tape, hot glue gun, pink satin queen-size sheet, 3 millimeter craft wire, push or safety pin, crepe paper flowers, faux greenery, pink tights

Instructions: Start by making the paper cones that will create the bouquet’s paper wrap effect.

Cut out squares of paper from your white kraft paper roll. Angle the paper into a diamond shape so one corner of the square is facing up. Roll the left corner of the paper toward the right and roll the right corner of the paper to the left to create a cone shape. Place a piece of tape where the edges of the paper meet. Make 18-20 cones of identical size. Take 9-10 of your existing cones and cut 4 inches off the remaining paper at the bottom. These shorter cones will be used for the top part of the dress.

Now you’re ready to start attaching the paper cones to the dress’s top and bottom. Take one of the shorter cones and place it in the center of the corset top, with the cone’s opening facing up. Hot glue the cone to the corset, then repeat so you have the 9-10 shorter cones circling the entire top. If you’d like, you can give the cones a bit more security by gluing each cone’s midpoint to the ones next to it. Repeat on the cage hoop skirt with the 9-10 larger cones, but with the cones’ openings facing down. Hot glue these bottom cones at two points: at the waistband of the cage skirt and at the cage’s bottom hoop.

Next, make the bow that will wrap around your bouquet. Take your satin queen-size sheet and cut in thirds to create three equally-sized strips. Take two of the strips, fold them each in half along the long side, and hot glue the other long side closed.

Now, take one of your two folded strips and cut a small triangle out of the fabric at each end to create the tails of your bow. Wrap this strip around the waist of your cage hoop skirt and tie in a knot in the center to secure. If desired, use 3 millimeter craft wire to add shape to the two tails of your bow.

Next, we’ll use the second folded fabric strip to create the main part of the bow. Take the strip’s short left side and fold inward in half; repeat on the short right side so the two sides meet in the middle. Push the fabric in the middle inwards and secure with a push or safety pin to create the bow’s signature shape. Cut a small strip of spare fabric from the third piece of the sheet, and loop around the middle of the bow to create the center band. If desired, make two small triangles with craft wire and insert in the opening of the bow’s sides to add shape. Once the wire is secure in your bow, glue the openings shut with your glue gun. Once the main part of your bow is complete, use hot glue to attach to the piece wrapped around the skirt’s waist, in between the two tails.

Lastly, add the paper flowers and faux greenery to the bottom of the dress to create your blooming bouquet. Attach the stems of your paper flowers to pieces of craft wire and wrap the wire around the rungs of your cage hoop skirt, letting the flowers drape down. For extra security, hot glue the flowers to the inside of the skirt and/or to each other. Use hot glue to attach faux greenery around the flowers. Polish off your unique Halloween costume with pink tights and Burgundy Tieks for an elegant and elaborate look.

DIY Jellyfish Costume

What you’ll need: purple tank top, purple tulle midi skirt, cage hoop skirt, purple battery-operated string lights (we used 4 strands), clear tape, iridescent ruffled ribbon, hot glue gun, small clear bubble balloons, balloon garland tape strip

Instructions: Begin by creating the top part of your jellyfish (known as the bell), which will be worn as your skirt. Place your purple tulle midi skirt over your cage hoop skirt and wrap the skirt’s fabric underneath the bottom rung of the hoop. Use hot glue to attach the bottom of the fabric to the skirt’s interior, creating a bubble effect around the bottom of the cage hoop. Feel free to stuff the skirt with newspaper, fabric, or cotton fluff to add more volume if desired!

Next, use clear tape to attach 4 purple battery-operated string lights to the skirt’s interior. Tape the lights to the inside of the belt area and let them cascade down the skirt’s interior to give a translucent glow.

Take the iridescent ruffled ribbon and measure out 4 pieces that will circle the skirt in layers—one strip to encircle your waist, one to wrap around the bottom of the skirt, and two in between. Feel free to add more pieces in the middle if your skirt is longer!

Hot glue each piece of iridescent fabric to the skirt, creating distinct ruffled layers between the skirt’s top and bottom. Cut the remaining ribbon into strips approximately 3 feet long to create the jellyfish’s tentacles. Use hot glue to attach each strip to the inside of the skirt’s bottom.

To make the “bubble boa” that will wrap around your upper half, inflate your small clear bubble balloons and stick them onto a balloon garland strip using the included glue points. Finish off one of the most creative Halloween costumes you ever did “sea” by slipping into a purple tank top and Lilac Tieks—flats so comfy, you’ll feel like you’re floating!
